7 Pieces for Cycling in Style

May 27, 2016 by Kim Larsen Filed Under: Fashion, Fitness Fashion

The weather is finally warming up, and if you’re a seasonal cyclist or casually cycling around town, it’s time to dust off the old gear. Click to view the Fitness Fashion Friday Biking Gear Video for ideas to keep you riding in comfort and style!

7 Items to Keep You Cycling Safely in Style

  1. Helmet. Consider fit, ventilation, ergonomics, and style. Look for two thumbs distance between eyebrows and helmet, and a snug fit under your chin.
  2. Sunglasses. Wrap around styles won’t impede your vision and they work well for sports activities. Consider choosing sunglasses for your specific sport and use a lens made for the time of day you will be biking.
  3. Tops. Choose wicking tops with a longer cut in back for coverage when leaning over on your bike. Tops made with pockets work best for cycling. Zippers for ventilation, reflective qualities, and a higher collar to cover your neck are also options to look for.
  4. Gloves. Not only can gloves help you grip your handlebars and prevent callouses or blisters but they can also relieve pressure points that can cause numbness in your hands during a ride.
  5. Bottoms. Choose padded capris, shorts, and skirts to keep you comfortable. With these new styles, you don’t need to look like you’ve just biked in a race. Look for leg grippers on spandex and removable chamois inserts in shorts and skirts. *Making sure your bike seat is adjusted properly is also important for a comfortable ride.
  6. Socks. Wear lightweight, polyester, or merino wool socks that will wick and stay dry. Look for a cuff or height that won’t slide down ankle.
  7. Shoes. Grip the pedals with style no matter how far you’re biking. Shoes that clip to your pedals can help you use your energy pulling the pedal up and as well as down. New styles are available that look similar to an athletic shoe and won’t “click” as you walk!

Biking GearOf course, there are other items to consider; your bike, nutrition, technology including GPS and much more. Discuss your specific cycling needs with an expert to help you gear up for a successful and safe cycling season. Thanks to Scheels All Sports for participating in this segment and Scheel’s biking expert Jenn Bast for sharing her biking wisdom!
