Fitness Fabrics: 5 Ways to Stay Comfortable

August 7, 2015 by Kim Larsen Filed Under: Fashion, Fitness

You know the activity you’re participating in, and you’ve thought about your specific needs and your personal preferences. Now you’re ready to choose your workout clothes! Of course, we may love a certain color or style but consider what technology can do for you. One of the main reasons to use these technologies in your workout gear is to increase your comfort. If your comfort level is higher while performing an activity will your performance increase? Maybe!

Five Technologies to Consider for Your Next Activity:

  1. UPF – Ultra Protection Factor. You’ve heard about SPF (Sun Protection Factor) in sunscreens for your skin. UPF is the protection factor for your clothes. There are many reasons to protect your skin from the sun. Maybe you have a history of skin cancer, or you’re on a medication that makes you susceptible to the sun’s rays, or maybe you just burn easily.
  2. Wicking Technology: If you’re active and perspiring you don’t always want your sweat soaked clothes clinging to you; especially if you’re working out in colder weather as it may chill you. Wicking technology can trap the moisture vapor from your skin and wick it away from your body keeping you dry and comfortable.
  3. Anti-microbial/Anti-odor: This is great because it prevents the stink in your fitness clothes! You don’t apply antiperspirant everywhere so the bacteria in the sweat penetrates the fabric and can cause odors. This technology prevents odors and also gives you the option to wash your clothes less. View post on How to Wash Your Workout Clothes.
  4. Water and Stain Repellent Fabrics: You may have heard of this on furniture fabrics, but it’s also available in fitness fabric as well. It not only repels water but if it does get wet it drys quickly. Great for boating and other water activities.
  5. Anti-Insect fabrics. These may repel mosquitoes, ticks, ants, flies, chiggers and midges (no-see-um). There are also sprays that you can apply to your workout gear that will help repel insects.
