Spark Award Winner – Savage Fitness and Boxing
Hector Puchetta, owner and head trainer at Savage Fitness and Boxing started with a vision that developed from his experience and love of boxing, but building a business takes more than just the love of a sport. Success can be a long road and it takes sacrifice; something Hector has experienced in many ways.
Hector began boxing when he was six while living in Mexico. His family struggled and life was anything but easy. Some days the goal was just to find food for his family. He eventually sought a better life and came to the United States at age 11. He worked odd jobs and he had his share of ups and downs. His journey is inspiring. His perseverance is amazing. He saved money by working part-time jobs and eventually working as a personal trainer to reach his dream, all while sending money to help support his family in Mexico.
In his early twenties, his vision of opening a gym can true when Savage Fitness and Boxing opened a 1,000 square foot gym in Banbury Place in Eau Claire. Boxing is a sport that burns a lot of calories, but Hector wanted to make boxing fun and accessible to everyone. The most popular class is called 30/30 Showtime which is a combination of 30 minutes of boxing and 30 minutes of bodyweight conditioning work. What else makes this workout unique? A disco atmosphere with music and strobe type lights to keep you motivated.
It didn’t take long for his membership to grow and in less than a year from starting his gym a new and expanded Savage Fitness and Boxing Gym will open. You can visit the new 8,000 square foot gym which will include a boxing ring, gym equipment, and group fitness area at 2228 North Hillcrest Parkway in Altoona, WI. The Savage Fitness and Boxing Grand opening festivities will be from 1-7 PM, Saturday, July 28, 2018.
