This weeks winner of the Fitbit Flex is Kia from Somerset, Wisconsin. We met up over the weekend so that we could award her with this past weeks prize. She was excited to win and mentioned that it would help her stay on track. When I asked her about her fitness journey I realized we had another inspirational story to tell. I’m so glad to have her as our winner this week. Congratulations, Kia!
Definitely a Winner: Cancer survivor, Mom, and Marathon Runner
A Glimpse into Kia’s Story: In 2007 Kia was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma at the young age of 24. She underwent chemo treatments and then became pregnant with her daughter. She was clear of cancer for a year when she found out that the cancer had returned. This time she went through radiation treatments followed by another pregnancy. She gave birth to her son and shortly before her son’s first birthday the cancer came back. Her next step; more chemo, a stem cell transplant, and radiation. She commented that after everything she went through she considered it a “new beginning”. She decided to get in shape and she did. She lost over 100 pounds! She trained and ran not one, but two full marathons and she has been cancer free for almost five years! Kia’s story is proof that through devastating ups and downs you can choose the path to a healthy lifestyle.
