It’s that time of year when the leaves begin to change and trips to apple orchards and pumpkin patches are planned. Take this natural time of change and reflect on your own life. Are there things that you would like to change? Maybe a change in attitude is in order or maybe you realize you need to change your life in some other way. Is a new goal needed to motivate you to change in a positive way?
The other day my goal was pretty simple. Head to the pumkpin patch! Every year I try to make a trip to Schultz’s Country Barn to find pumpkins, gourds or anything else for the season. With that mission in mind, I grabbed Bentley and took the scenic tour to my hometown. We headed from Eau Claire south on Highway 93 and over to what Eleva locals call “The Eleva Ridge”. You’ll find a scenic overlook on the ridge and you’ll know it when you see it. Even though changes in the view include a few more houses than it did when I was a kid it’s still a beautiful place to stop and take in Wisconsin’s landscape.
Upon entering Eleva you’ll notice the signs for pumkpins and Schultz’s Country Barn. The farm used to be a working farm with milking cows when I was a kid. It’s located on Main Street just down from where I grew up. How many farms do you know have an address of Main Street? Proof of how small the town really is! I think the population when I was little was 374:) Elmer Schultz was the owner at the time and everyone in town knew him. As seasons see changes the farm has seen changes too but Elmer’s son and daughter-in-law continue to to keep it alive with a new purpose.
On Tuesday nights in the summer the farms hosts live music to help benefit the local Girl Scouts, the barn is now a store selling antiques and ice cream, and in the upper level of the barn they host weddings, receptions, and other events. The farm is still home for a variety of friendly animals including a miniature horse, roosters, and a variety of goats including pygmy and fainting goats. If you want to try to find your way out of a corn maze they have that too. (I also hear that Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus have planned to visit in December:)
If you haven’t picked up your pumpkins yet, check out Schultz’s Country Barn and visit their pumpkin patch in Eleva. Enjoy the scenic drive and notice natures changing colors. While your at it stop at the ridge, take a seat on the bench overlooking the beautiful Wisconsin scenery and think about positive changes you might want to make for yourself this season.
Here’s to finding your style,™
