Who knew our Fitbit Winner Would be a Runner and an Angel

Gabi, our kimbentley Fitbit giveaway winner was in the midst of finals at UW-Eau Claire when we met and I presented her with the Fitbit prize. Gabi studies Kinesiology as a Major and Spanish as a Minor at UWEC. She told me her goal was to pursue a career as an occupational therapist along with reaching out to the Spanish community. Growing up Gabi took swimming lessons, danced, and played both soccer and rugby. She credits her parents to her healthy lifestyle as they encouraged her and her two younger sisters to be healthy and active. Then she told me she was an angel.
Being an Angel – In Her Words
“I ran the Half Marathon as an Angel with the Wisconsin chapter of an organization called myTeam Triumph. I ran alongside my partner Angel Ari, and our wonderful Captain Nick.”

“Running as an Angel and being a part of myTeam Triumph was truly an unforgettable experience. The members of the organization have the purest of hearts and are a joy to work alongside. They are my inspiration for pursuing more opportunities alongside them and supporting the mission of myTeam Triumph. Ari and I have run endurance races in the past, but for a different motive than the EC Half Marathon. In the past, we ran endurance races for ourselves, but we decided that we need to run for a different motive. We dedicated the EC Half Marathon race our Captain Nick, Captain Don, and Captain Trevor as well as other individuals who aren’t able to run. My teammates Ari and Nick are my motivation for running future endurance events, and I am looking forward to our next adventure together.”

What is myTeam Triumph?
myTeam Triumph is made up of people of diverse abilities; abled bodies and challenged bodies. They come together during endurance events and support each other side by side. The mission of myTeam Triumph is to enrich the health and well-being of individuals with disabilities by fostering lasting, authentic relationships through the teamwork environment of endurance athletics. A team consists of Angels and a Captain. Angels are the athletes who serve their Captain selflessly by fundraising and guiding their Captain in a race. Captains are those who are challenged athletes, the heroes, and leaders of the races. The captains are the motivation and strength behind the team.¹
