Starting Out on Your Peloton Bike

Riding Peloton Bike

Peloton Shoes

Momma Got a New Pair of Shoes!

Hello Friends!
Like so many, COVID brought more of us back to working out at home. Maybe you made a spare room into a gym, maybe you’ve been taking zoom classes with your favorite trainer, maybe you laced up your shoes and began walking or running, or maybe you’re still figuring it out. It’s been a crazy time that’s for sure.

I recently purchased a Peloton bike. I had been thinking about making this purchase long before COVID but recently took the plunge. This morning was my eleventh ride. I’m still a newbie.

My First Peloton Bike Experiences

Before I even begin to tell you about the classes, note that there is a learning curve here. My Peloton Bike was delivered and set up by Peloton staff. However, I did purchase the Peloton Shoes, and to be totally honest, I had to call Peloton Support to figure out how to attach the cleats so I could take my first ride! Peloton has videos to help and an even better support staff. 🙂
Years ago, I cycled a lot. I’ve even biked a couple of MS150 Rides from Milwaukee, WI to Madison, WI. But again, that was years ago. Riding a Peloton Bike is an awesome workout but don’t expect it to be a piece of cake!  I was a bit surprised at how difficult it was but since it’s been a decade since I’ve hopped on a bike, I guess it makes perfect sense! Cadence seems to be my biggest difficulty but that’s for another blog post. 🙂 The good news is, Peloton has a variety of on-demand and “live” classes at varying levels. I began with 20 and 30-minute beginner rides. These rides will help your rear get accustomed to the saddle (I felt it the morning after my first ride) and the classes will teach you proper form and how to use the bike’s screen. My last couple of rides have been 30-minute advanced beginner rides. They’ve combined flat road, hills, and HIIT (high-intensity intervals) segments within the class. Get ready, you WILL sweat.

Peloton Instructors

A couple of the instructors I’ve trained with so far are Jen Sherman and Sam Yo. I would suggest trying a variety of trainers to see who you vibe with. There are a TON of trainers! I haven’t taken a “live” class yet or tried any of their other class types. I will soon, and I’ll let you know how it goes! You can also check out some of my rides in the kimbentley Instagram Peloton Stories.
