Six Fitness Fashion Staples to Build Your Workout Wardrobe
We all love to jump on the newest trends in workout clothes, so maybe you’ve already picked up a few of them. For example, we are seeing fun pattern in leggings and sheer everything right now. If you’ve been working out for a while, you know that fitness fashion staples can make your life easier especially if you’re in a hurry to get to your workout. If you’re just starting an exercise program, staples will give you a base to build your workout wardrobe. Solids are important to have on hand. It may sound boring, but you need white tank tops and black leggings! Compare it to having the classic white blouse and the little black dress in your regular wardrobe. They’re just necessary, pieces and you’ll always be glad you have them. If you can, purchase double up on staples because if you’re like me, you work out a LOT. You just can never have too many. As your fitness wardrobe grows, a white tank will always go with that new capri that you fell in love with that just happens to be the weirdest shade of whatever when you get it home. Throw on a bright white tank, and you’re ready to go. Simple solid tops are a necessity right now because there are so many wild bottoms this year; geometrics, stripes, and explosions of color. Black tanks can be great too as your wardrobe grows because many of the patterns include black. One more tip, if you find a style and brand that fits you well, it’s worth it to buy multiples if you can. It will just make your life easier.
Six Fitness Fashion Staples:
- Tops: White tanks (singlets). You can never have enough. It’s like the white button down shirt in your regular wardrobe which is a classic staple. Find one in a wicking material.
- Long Sleeve Top: I would suggest a charcoal or white color in a wicking material.
- Bottoms: Leggings, capris or shorts. A black legging is the “little black dress” of the fitness gear! A charcoal color also works well for a staple.
- Sports Bra: White and Black are a good place to start. Spend a bit more money here if you need to. Comfort and support are key!
- Socks: I like a low cut style. Choose thickness and cushioning that fits your needs and choose a black or white color that matches best with your workout shoes.
- Shoes: Black, white or gray but you really can get away with anything in your shoes. Purchase a shoe designed for your activity. If you only can buy one pair of shoes for a variety of activities consider a cross trainer. It’s worth spending a little more money on shoes to make sure that you have the proper fit. Discuss your specific needs with a qualified sales person.
You may be thinking that wearing black, white, and gray seems boring but if you’re just beginning to build a fitness wardrobe, begin with the basics. Depending on your activity and climate other items could be added. Once you have the basics, expand your fitness wardrobe with pops of color and wild patterns!
I haven’t experiment that much yet with mixing pattern in my fitness wardrobe. I will put that on my list of things to consider in another post. Stripes and polka dots perhaps? We’ll see. Let me know if you have suggestions!
