Mudra to Honor Your Inner Beauty and Light
Sanskrit
Padma – Lotus (Sacred Lotus)
Mudra – Seal or Gesture
Practice the Padma (Lotus Flower) Mudra to bring calmness, inspire purity and perseverance, and to remind you of your inner beauty and grace.
The Padma Mudra Story
The lotus flower is said to bloom most beautifully when it takes root from the deepest and thickest mud. The darkness of the muck and mud represents our ego, our habits, ignorance, our drama, our suffering, our sadness, and our challenges. ALL humans experience dark moments. It doesn’t matter whether you have it all or you have nothing, whether you are large or small, young or old; we all have something. All of us face the dark mucky obstacles of life.
The Lotus rises up to grow through the darkness of the murky water making the journey to move toward the warmth and light where it blossoms at the water’s surface. As humans, we too can make the journey from our darkest moments. Our challenging experiences are our opportunity to strive for growth. These challenges help us to gain more wisdom, more kindness, and more compassion so we too can make the journey to rise up like the lotus growing toward the light and warmth ready to blissfully blossom at the water’s surface.
How to Practice Padma Mudra
- Bring your hands to Anjali Mudra (prayer mudra) in front of your heart center with the palms of your hands touching.
- Keep the heels of your palms touching, your pinky fingers touching, and your thumbs touching as you peel the palms of your hands, index, middle, and ring fingers away from one another.
- The three middle fingers of each hand blossom away from one another like a lotus flower in bloom.
I hope you enjoy practicing the Padma Mudra!
