11 Tips to Keep Your Workout Makeup in Place While you Sweat
Should you really wear makeup when you work out? Who does that, right? Well, I do. I realize that there are some people that may think it’s crazy to wear makeup just to sweat it off. And for the record, when I workout, I workout, I sweat. I also like to look my best. If you normally wear makeup and you feel better wearing it, then wear it. Who doesn’t need a little boost of confidence now and then? If you feel that you look good you will have more confidence no matter what you are doing. I’m sure it’s much better for your skin to go for a run without makeup on your face but I’m sorry, I won’t and I never will. It’s just who I am. If I’m going be completely honest I will also have to admit that I’m not in my twenties. I’m not in my thirties either. I want my makeup. That being said, beyond vanity, there are other reasons to not go completely natural. The best reason is for the extra sun protection. All of my moisturizers, foundations, and powders have sunscreen in them.
So how can you keep your makeup from running faster than you? I’ve run half marathons and found that my makeup has stayed on really well when I follow certain steps. I may have a layer of salt on my face from perspiring for 13.1 miles but hey, the makeup stayed in place! If you run you understand the salt thing.

11 Tips that will keep your makeup in place.
- Sunscreen: Use a sport sunscreen that is oil free and won’t sweat off.
- Moisturizers: Use gentle, light, and oil-free moisturizers. I tend to use moisturizers after my workout.
- Primer: Think of your face as a canvas. If you prime it first the product you apply after will look better and stay on longer.
- Foundations: Use oil-free foundation so those pores that become wide open from working out won’t clog up! Try a long wearing foundation with sunscreen. If you don’t like foundation use a tinted sunscreen or tinted moisturizer.
- Powders and Blush: If you’re working out you will have a natural blush but if you want some color you can opt for a powder. Some contain natural sunscreens like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide.
- Lips: I love lip gloss but if you have long hair you might not like it sticking to your gloss on a run. Use a lip stain for a color that lasts. Find a combination stain and lip balm. Also use sunscreen on your lips! Note: Your lip stain can work double duty as a blush:)
- Mascara: The best bet is to use a waterproof version. If you find waterproof to difficult to remove or if your lashes are fragile opt for a long wearing mascara. There are tons of long-wearing makeup products out there.
- Eyeliners: It may seem unnecessary to use an eyeliner but eyeliners are big right now and if you choose one in a bright color you may decide to skip eyeshadow. I love creme gel eyeliners.
- Eyeshadow: Again, there are many long wearing brands out there. Find a color you love and go with it.
- Setting Spray: This is key to keeping your makeup in place. If you use hairspray on your hair, spray for your makeup makes sense.
- After Workout: If you feel you need a quick touch up try some blotting sheets or a shine control powder to take care of any sheen.
Follow these steps and you should feel confident knowing that you look like your fabulous self and your mascara isn’t running down your face. Now grab a protein shake and enjoy carrying on with your friends.♥
